St Petersburg Singer was touring the Sibelius Palace 17.05.01

Sergey Rogogin has been performing for 18 years. His professional career began when the Soviet Union was in existence, in the formerly underground group Auction. From there, after a year and a half, Rogogin went to sing in the group Forum, with which during the Perestroika times he traveled all across the Soviet Union and overseas. He began to sing independently about five years ago.

- I have two styles. I am singing both, romance and pop - says Rogogin.

- But I like romances more. They are more open and personal.

Romances, or so to say, solo lyric songs, are also more authentic in Russia than in Anglo-American cultures, even in Russian style pop music. However, the change of style doesn’t bother Russians at all.

- Here, in Lahti I got a call from Ufa, Bashkirian Republic, where I was invited to perform. I asked whether they wanted to hear pop music or romances and I was told it didn’t matter, they simply wanted to see Rogogin - said the singer with the smile.

One fact says a lot about the singer’s popularity. A couple of years ago he was invited to resort “Vuocati” to attract Russian tourists. Singing turned out to be not necessary, only his presence was enough to raise interest.

Something exotic and something familiar.

Rogogin’s concerts in Lahti are being planned by Finnclub Travels Oy. The purpose of this is to develop the cultural side of tourism and to attract more wealthy Rusian tourists to Lahti.

- We don’t have either “Serena” or “Sjarkjanniemi”, but we have the Sibelius Palace, - points out the company’s director Yukka Mustonen. - Once we can find appropriate actors, the place can attract the fans of culture from overseas

The traveler, regardless of his nationality, needs something exotic during his traveling overseas, but he also needs to see something familiar and homelike at his destination.

The director of the program of the Sibelius Palace, Mina Jolkkonen, thinks that Rogogin’s concerts is an interesting idea. - We are receiving lots of questions about New Year’s program. I believe Finnish public will be interested by his concerts too.
